 ESTHETICIANS
 CORNER

The role of the clinical esthetician is changing ...
As more and more physicians realize the advantage of having an esthetician in their office. Conditioning patients skin prior to cosmetic procedures enhances the result that the patient will have. Post surgical care is also very important to aid in the patients recovery and keep the patient coming back to the physicians office for facials, light peels and rejuvenating treatments. Clinical estheticians now have the opportunity to become a tremendous asset in the physicians office with their knowledge and training.

More and more physicians are realizing the tremendous business they have been missing and are setting up 'medical spas' as they can offer the patient the pampering treatments that spas offer and the medical aspect. This also allows the esthetician to perform peel treatments and services that they could not do in a non-medical setting.

When choosing a treatment program as a clinical esthetician make sure that the claims that are being made by the company have sound clinical data to support those claims. This benefit is an added protection for you and the physician.

The Oxy-Mist program with Amino-Plex® was developed for the laser patient, however, Oxy-Mist with peels, microdermabrasion and oxygen facials has shown to be effective treatment providing better results.

 HYDROQUINONE
 TREATMENT 4%

After laser skin peels, chemical peels or microdermabrasion treatments ...
This step can be added to help patients/clients who have melasma or uneven skin tones to even out their skin. It is an optimal time to apply the 4% Hydroquinone for maximum effect.

 MICRODERMABRASION
 TREATMENT

We have just completed the first phase of clinical studies with punch biopsies ...
The first of it's kind, to show how well the treatment works with our protocol. The protocol is microdermabrasion, moderately aggressive with 20%-33% glycolic acid depending on skin type, followed by the Oxy-Mist treatment to achieve optimum results. This protocol will give you a marketing edge because you will get faster, better results! Early results of our clinical studies are spectacular! Punch biopsies show that with our protocol your patient/customer could get results on a cellular level from their first treatment! Biopsies of microdermabrasion alone show minimal damage to the epidermis and no cellular changes. Adding glycolic acid showed little or no change, however, adding the Oxy-Mist treatment showed that there were changes in the epidermis with penetration to the superficial dermis.

Patients who participated in the clinical studies ranging in age from 42-61 with thin to thick acne scarred skin, saw results within 2 treatments. Patients received 8 treatments at weekly intervals with the above protocol and will now go on a monthly maintenance program to be followed for 1 year. Half of the patients are using their own skin care and half are using the bio2 Cosmeceuticals "Advanced" skin care. Patients using the "Advanced" skin care have a better quality, texture, and more moist looking skin. Patients using their own skin care are using top brand name lines of skin care.

The combination of medical microdermabrasion with glycolic and Oxy-Mist will result in the perfect peel for your patient.

New Techniques for the New Milleneum.
New non-surgical techniques for rejuvenating the skin using Oxy-Mist. Down through history beautiful skin has been something that we all want. Not all of us have refined soft, youthful skin due to a multitude of skin conditions and heredity. Since the time of ancient Egyptians, the most famous woman ,Cleopatra (one of the first users of alpha hydroxy acids some 5,000 years ago) the quest for beautiful skin has been an ongoing process. During ancient times fire was used to singe the skin for a 'light' exfoliation and poultices containing mustard, sulfur and limestone, what we wouldn't do for beautiful skin!

Glycolic Acid or alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) -chemical exfoliants - have been used since the time of Cleopatra who as legend has it, bathed in sour milk(lactic acid) to keep her skin soft and smooth. Ladies in the French Court used aged wine on their faces - (tartaric acid) to keep their skin flawless. They were the first to discover the uses of AHA's. Alpha Hydroxy Acids are found in naturally occurring ingredients in various fruits (citric/ascorbic acid), sour milk (lactic acid) sugar cane (glycolic) and wine (tartaric acid). AHA's as we use them today, promote the natural removal of dead cells and help keep the protective surface layer healthy by dissolving the glue-like substance in the epidermal layer that causes a build up of dead skin cell layers leaving skin dehydrated, dull and coarse. The action of the glycolic acid will help to decrease fine lines and cause the release of debris within the 'pores' so that they appear more refined and the skin will be smoother and tighter. Deeper lines need to be treated with higher percentages of glycolic acid treatments to obtain some improvement; however, it does not take the place of a 'facelift'.

The percentage of the glycolic acid and the pH is very important for best results. Glycolic acid will also help improve the hydration level and circulation in the skin giving your skin a healthier appearance. When used in a peel treatment, glycolic acid can help promote collagen production and treat: dry skin, oily skin, acne, age spots, skin cell renewal and anti-aging. Glycolic acid peels should be done in a series, minimum of 6 treatments at weekly intervals depending on the condition of the skin, followed with an Oxy-Mist treatment after each peel. Oxy-Mist is a cooling soothing treatment, which helps promote healing and hydration, replacing nutrients within the skin for better peel results.

Microdermabrasion
This procedure is relatively new to the West. It is considered the latest in manual skin exfoliation. Microdermabrasion has been used in Europe for 20 years and was designed by an Italian company. This treatment is performed with a jet of micro crystals (aluminum oxide crystals) which are vacuumed via a hand piece under controlled pressure across the surface of the skin to remove the dead and damaged cells. Microdermabrasion, 'lunch time peel', epidermabrasion, crystal peel, power peel, derma peel or perfect peel, whichever one you've heard of, gently exfoliates the surface of the epidermis to accelerate the skin cell turnover. This 'peel' improves skin texture, tone and quality leaving the skin revitalized. Results are immediate and the treatment is virtually painless. It can also help in reducing acne scarring, sun-damaged skin (age spots), post surgical scars, and stretch marks. It takes numerous treatments to treat most skin conditions and is good pre-treatment before cosmetic surgery to help create a healthier skin. After the treatment the skin may peel and be dehydrated and irritated. The Microdermabrasion treatment followed with the Oxy-Mist treatment, which can help re-hydrate and nurture the skin while cooling and soothing the skin by reducing irritation.
Oxy-Mist (Amino-Plex + oxygen = Oxy-Mist)
Oxy-Mist was developed about 3 years ago for the medical industry. However, the components that make up the Oxy-Mist have been around for 30 years. Amino-Plex® the main ingredient in the Oxy-Mist has been used in Europe to help heal burn patients. This state-of-the art product contains amino acids, trace minerals and electrolytes. Clinical studies at UCLA and with leading plastic surgeons and dermatologists have shown the properties in Oxy-Mist help promote a better environment for the skin to repair itself after a peel, laser resurfacing or cosmetic surgery. Amino-Plex® was first used in the United States in the medical/cosmetic industry in 1988 to help patients heal from deep chemical peels. Later in the 1990's after laser resurfacing to promote faster, better quality of healing.

Over the years it was combined with micellized vitamin E and oxygen gas to provide the most optimal healing process. Oxygen is used to propel the Amino-Plex® and micellized vitamin E onto the surface of the skin. Medical grade oxygen promotes an oxygen rich environment (our air is about 21% oxygen, 14% in more polluted areas); so at 99% you can see why the skin loves this treatment. When the skin is compromised as in laser resurfacing and peels, the Oxy-Mist helps promote immediate healing and rejuvenation while replacing amino acids, trace minerals and electrolytes lost by being compromised. There is no other treatment available that has the rejuvenating qualities of the Oxy-Mist. It improves the quality of the skin dramatically giving your patient/customer the best result of your glycolic acid peel or microdermabrasion peel. Patients/customers that have had previous peels without the Oxy-Mist have experienced dry dehydrated skin, redness, irritation and flaky skin with minimal results. Subsequent peels followed with Oxy-Mist have shown the quality of their skin to be dramatically improved with little or no redness, no irritation and a hydrated youthful skin. All treatments with Oxy-Mist provide optimum results for your patients/customers. Facial treatments such as: peels, microdermabrasion or laser resurfacing should always include the Oxy-Mist to provide the best after care treatment available with the best results.
